Angry Orchard Growler Tags

for Boston Beer Company

While working at Boston Beer Company I was put on a project to design growler tags for the Angry Orchard cidery opening in Walden, NY. The Angry Orchard team requested that the tags feel rustic and feature an illustration of the cidery’s unique hexagonal barn.

Growler Tag Design Exploration

I used a color scheme of warm browns to set the rustic tone and created a texturized background to give the impression of distressed paper. I experimented with adding a zoomed in barn illustration for additional texture, but moved away from that direction after receiving feedback that the designs felt too busy.

Final Tag Design

The final tag design features a thick brown border and the unique barn illustration on both the front and back. I also designed stickers for the front and back of the tags that note the cider name and nutrition facts or description. I used bright colors to make the cider names pop and create contrast with the more neutral backgrounds.

Print Collateral for the Opening

For the cidery opening the Angry Orchard team requested additional print collateral such as menu cards, posters and stickers. I used design elements from the growler tags on the additional collateral to create a nice cohesive visual identity for the event.
